Persistence, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Tuesday, March 31st 2009Warm hellos to all;
Here is the THOT for your week:
"Nothing in the world can take place of Persistence.Talent will not;
nothing is more commonplace than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent.
- Calvin Coolidge
Think of this for a moment:
Perseverance in life is being steadfast; Persistence is being just plain
stubborn and refusing to budge from your plan.
Persistence is far grittier than Perseverance. Perseverance is the perspiration
of achievement: Persistence is the sweat!
Persistence is you knocking on Heaven's doors so often and so loud on
behalf of your dreams, that eventually you'll begiven what you want just
to shut you up!
Persistence does not understand the word "NO", or "I can't", or "it can't be done."
It has but one goal: "I will."
One thing that I have discovered in 30 years of practice is that patients love it
when their doctor refuses to believe that theycan't be helped.
Period.
That there is no such thing as failure.
That type of strength is what is often needed to be able to truly help someone.
We often fail as we focus on the end result only without as much as a side glance
at the milestones along the way.
For example, you may have a patient who has been battling with Colitis - it has
ruined his/her life.
You focus on the Colitis and the fact that you have not been able to help the
patient - and it has only been 2 months.
Get real! It might take 1.5 years to help such a patient. ...and if you focus only
on the end result, you'll miss little clues that thispathology is slowly resolving itself.
Clues such as; better sleeping, less stress, smoother skin, weight gain, less cramping,
firmer stools, less leg numbness, more laughter, straighter posture, more happiness,
less headaches, less constipation/diarrhea, etc. These are the milestones you need to
see toreinforce that you are on the right track - and your patient needs to understand
that these are your indicators. Persistence. It's everything.
So...go out there and be absolutely bold and persistent.
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
