Complacency and Apathy, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Wednesday, April 15th 2009Warm greetings to everyone,
This THOT is directed mainly at Ontario doctors, however, many of you
might recognizeyour own association, your own Board, and even maybe
yourself, in this letter.
For those of you who are from outside this province, you may wonder
what prompted this outcry. Please allow me to give you a brief summary:
I have served as a past Council Member on the Ontario Board (The
College of Chiropractors of Ontario - CCO) for almost two years.
It is my firm belief that the CCO (and probably many boards) is not
here to foster the expansion of Chiropractic. What a surprise that is!
The CCO is answerable to the government - and they want Chiropractic
restricted so it does not affect the legal drug trade and drug profits. (For those
of you who are surprised by this, I have some ocean-front property for you
in the Sierra Nevadas). The result is that the CCO is incredibly restrictive - why
would you want a profession who stands against huge drug profits, to flourish?
So...a number of years ago the only advertising that was allowed was
your name, address, phone number and whether you had a wheelchair ramp.
In response to this, a number of doctors in Ontario decided to take matters
into their own hands. We hired an attorney, and formed an incorporated
committee which legally challenged these insane advertising restrictions.
We won.
That was in 1990. I remember that date very well because it was my idea.
But....The CCO has slowly been "retaking" this turf - asking doctors to submit
any advertising to them for their "approval." No one is objecting that this is
encroaching on their rights and freedoms!
Amazing!
Wait...this get better:
Two years ago, the CCO passed a new "regulation" which forbids chiropractors
to discuss the issue of vaccination with their patients. The penalty if you are
found guilty, is loss or suspension of licence.
It is a very effective gag order in a free and democratic society. Right!
There have been some lame negotiations with one or two of the Province's
associations, but because they typically approached the issue in a very
Canadian manner - with great pleasantry, tact, and reserve, the CCO just
steamed-rolled right over them. ...And they wonder why their member
numbers are not growing....
So...DCs in Ontario are bound and gagged so they do not tell the truth
about vaccination.
How many of you see a problem with this?
As an aside: my book, "Kids-First: Health With No Interference" has a
whole chapter which deals with the issue of vaccination. You cannot discuss
it with your patients, BUT you can certainly point them to it. As well, it also
has a wonderful "Consent For The Administration of Vaccination" form at the
end of that chapter which should be given to, and signed, by anyone who
wants to administer the shot.
My patients used to give this form to their physician or school nurse and
asked them to sign it before any vaccination was administered.
No one would, of course.
At present, the CCO is attempting to pass still newer regulations which will
limit pre-payment.
They sent a "draft proposal" to the entire profession for feedback. Will it matter?
Absolutely not.
These new restriction will become law. Will DCs in Ontario accept their new
shackles? Absolutely YES!
And they may even ask for a better fit - smaller please.
I can see it already - next year the CCO will probably pass a new regulation
forbidding DCs from speaking out against drugs. I would not at all be
surprised if this is already being formulated in the back rooms by those
who really yield power at the CCO. And there will be the usual outcry which
will then be followed by total acceptance and submission - all in a very
Canadian fashion.
The other thing you should also be aware of is that the Lay members of this
body are specially chosen by the government to sit on the CCO - I'm sure
with some wonderful help from within. I am certain that these people are
specially chosen to block and veto regs which will ensure that chiropractic will flourish.
I have even heard that one of the lay (public) members has a spouse who is
in charge of the Province's vaccination program - does anyone see a problem with this?
The whole group sustains its own power mongering. I never did understand
why the Registrar of the CCO is an attorney who has a salary upwards of
$140,000/year in 1999. I wonder what the salary rate is at present? And why
do we need a lawyer acting as Registrar? Could it be that this is an exchange
program with the legal profession and that the Bar association has a chiropracto
r as their Registrar?
I doubt it. I feel strongly that a chiropractic board should have a chiropractor
acting as Registrar. I have no doubt that most of the chiropractic purgings
and pogroms come from this office - mine certainly did.
I have to say this; Ontario DCs have been very polite and accepting of their new
fate up to this point.
I say Enough! and many are in agreement!
Let me be incredibly bold and come straight out and ask you this:
Why are you a Chiropractor?
And when you graduated, did you know that your hands would be progressively
shackled by your own kind?
No? What a shock.
Think of this for a moment: How many people, especially children, will die
or be permanently damaged by a vaccine because you kept your mouth shut?
And how many will not recover with you because you could not present them
with a payment or care plan which would have helped them? Remember that
you swore an oath upon graduation - and it had nothing to do with not being
able to speak your mind in a free country, a countrywhich guaranteed your
freedom of speech in the constitution...or so you thought! It seems that those
who run the CCO may think they are above the law of the land. They are wrong.
Chiropractic was born in Ontario - I fear, and many agree, that it sounds like it
will die here as well. ....Unless...you decide to get off your butt and say, "I had
enough! No more! It's over! Let's reclaim Chiropractic"!
Atta Boy!
If you have had enough, if you want to practice with freedom and liberty at
your wingtips, if you want to speak out against injustice, if you want to look
your son straight in the eye with pride, if you are sick and tired of feeling suppressed,
I say wonderful! You are starting to get pissed off! Awesome!
Tremendous! Please have your friends and colleagues do the same.
We want the profession up and out of their apathetic state.
We want to shout in one loud voice: "ENOUGH!"
How would you like to be remembered? With a whimper or with a bang?
If these words have touched you, that was my purpose.
Chiropractic was meant to survive and flourish for the betterment of the people
we serve - especially children.
You were meant to make it so.
You are a Chiropractor!
Act on it!
Dr. Ogi Ressel
